Hello! We're the hostettler's!
And we are so excited that our path has crossed with yours.
Let us share a bit about how we began to live such a Counter Cultural Life.
The Year was 2020...
And we both were completely exhausted by the fast, crazy pace of life here in the lovely United States. The hustle culture had taken over. We had both spent multiple years building our businesses of a fitness studio and lawn care business, only for Covid 19 to shut us down over night.
Everything we had worked for..
all the long hours...
all the blood, sweat, and tears...
for nothing?
We had lost 80% of our income over night. Here we were both living off of unemployment for a short period, trying to figure out our next steps...
trying to figure out how we would feed our two babies.
we realized something had to change...
We realized that we had been chasing a dream that wasn't even ours... it was society's dream.
You know that dream right? They call it the American Dream. It is drilled into our minds at such a young age that we don't even have the ability to create our own dream.
It goes a little something like this...
Go get a college education, sign up for a job you hate for the rest of your life, stick with it until retirement. From there if you're lucky you can enjoy a few years of life before croaking over.
Oh, and while you're working so hard don't forget, all of that income will go to your fancy car (or maybe not so fancy) and your mortgage. So don't plan for much time to enjoy life.
You've heard of that dream right? We realized it just wasn't for us and we decided to do this crazy thing....
We bought an RV and life forever changed for our family.
The truth is modern american culture had left us stressed, depressed, & pretty empty inside....
It's hard to be a good parent when you're stressed, depressed, and empty inside. It's hard to be a good spouse when you're so busy that you cannot see straight. It's hard to be a good friend when you feel utterly exhausted from the pace of life.
To us, the MOST important thing was creating an abundant life for our family. We knew we wanted our kids to experience the world and we knew the American Dream we had bought into just wasn't going to allow that for them. The American Dream was only going to teach them that life is all about working until you die just to get more material things.
So we held hands, told our families (who absolutely thought we were crazy), and took a major leap of faith. With a 3 month old, 2.5 year old, and two 80 lb. dogs, we sold our house, our cars, 90% of our material belongings, bought an RV, and hit the road!
Never once have we EVER regretted that crazy leap of faith.
4 RV's later, counter cultural is just a way of life for us now.
We choose a Counter Cultural Life so that we can take back our time. We all only have so many hours that we will breathe on this earth. We didn't want our hours to go to things that didn't matter.
Our hope is to inspire other families to not be afraid to reject the status quo. Our prayer is that we can encourage and inspire other families to create a family vision and go after it wholeheartedly, no matter what society says.
Will you join us in choosing to pursue a different life than the normal way? There is so much freedom when you let go of what society thinks and just embrace who you are and what you want for your life.
